Pumpkins, Leaves and Party.

It's been days since we wanted to talk to you about Mireia Abras, a decorator who includes flowers as a material that complements the scene. We were lucky to be invited to the event Pumpkins, Leaves and Party and met her personally and see her work. For the occasion, she chose dried flowers in warm colors, and incorporated other elements like mushrooms and moss creating an autumnal scene that accompanied the theme of the event perfectly.
Here are some pics!

Pumpkins, Leaves and Party Party

This saturday we attended the event Pumpkins, Leaves and Party who had been organized by Úrsula from Nice Weddings and Tanit from Paper Project. We did not have any clue of what they had prepared, all we knew was that it would be held in Masia Ribas. This fact was already revealing enough to imagine that we would have a good time. Indeed, when we arrived, we were thoroughly gaping with everything these two girls had prepared for us! We were a group of 30 girls from the event planning industry, and we are confident that they all liked it as much as we did.
We are going to carefully explain every single detail!

As we were saying, the venue for the event was the Masia Ribas, a family house built in 1779. A beautiful space located in Gavá, surrounded by pines and cypresses, with a huge garden, which holds weddings, parties and all kinds of events. Elisabeth Raventós is responsible for the farm, and welcomed us from the start with lots kindness.

When we arrived Úrsula and Tanit were waiting with identification tags for each of us. The garden of the house, divided by zones, began presenting the different vendors who had contributed to the event.

No faltaba detalle!
A few steps further a very vintage photobooth was waiting for us and we took some nice polaroids! No detail was missing!

Near the entrance of one of the halls, was a Candy Bar organized by Chocoas. Mini lemon or orange cupcakes, marshmallows coated in chocolate, or candy bananas decorated the buffet in yellows, oranges and browns, in line with the fall season and especially with the theme of the event.

On entering the house they had organized us a crafts workshop! All Whasi Tape showed us some of their wonderful tapes and crafts techniques along with mountable boxes by Selfpackaging. Each with its style, the result was a success!

Then we moved to another room decorated with material by Crimons where the amazing afternoon snack expected us. With a beautiful imperial table prepared by Nice Weddings, Paper Project, Estilo Nórdico and Mireia Abras (responsible for the incredible floral atmospheres) we enjoyed every detail. You can imagine our faces when entering the room and seeing this wonder? You can value it yourselves with the pics!

Sibaris offered us an amazing snack that included olive mini baguettes with ham, malt bread sandwiches with salmon, homemade cakes, lemon cream with red fruit coulis and strawberry or chocolate mousse with orange ganache and crumbles, among others.

Our hostess surprised us again with a draw where raffled different products from suppliers who had collaborated: from mugs and calendars by Mr. Wonderful, to a sweatshirt by Tramadora or a precious bouquet by Mireia Abras. In addition, we all returned home with many favors: a soap by Jabones Siracussa, badges with messages by Mr. Wonderful, a delicious bonbon by Chocoas and a Tramadora bracelet, but the biggest favor was the aromatic sachets that Úrsula and Tanit prepared to us to thank our assistance. We are the ones grateful for an afternoon so fantastic!

To say goodbye, we went out to the garden to see the farmhouse lit at night, and enjoyed some marsmallows in true American style as we said goodbye to a superb evening. Thanks to all supporters such as Noemi Jariod (photographer), Tinta Gris (original papers), Mua Carmen (supplements), La Buhardilla (interior decoration textiles) for making of Pumpkins, Leaves and Party an unique event.

Calendario Floral

One of the things to consider when choosing flowers for an event is the floral calendar. Although, thanks to the flower's importation from any zone of the world, it is easier to find a flower out of season, we must be awared that the price will increase. So, after some investigation days, today we are going to give you a guideline to know what flowers you will find in each season. You'll notice that there are many more options that you thought! Moreover, the great majority of them can be found in several colours.

As we all know, spring is the season when there is more variety of flowers. So if you get married in the spring, it will be easier to find the flower you wanted for your day. One thing: the peony flower is one of the most delicate and expensive, due to the difficulty of their culture and its life is so short (late May to early June). *

In summer, although the weather is dry, there are precious flowers that fit into any space. We love the extensive plantations of sunflowers, which can be found on almost every continent. *

Although originally the Orchid flower is autumn and winter, nowadays occurs continuously throughout the year. No direct heat source, it can live more than 15 days. For its part, Freesia, is one of the interior designers' favorite smelling flowers and they use it every day in their floral creations and concepts, especially in bridal bouquets. *

Some flowers such as Tulips, are being very typical of an area, in this case of the Netherlands, known as the land of tulips. Although we have found that they are from Turkey. Its name is the Latinized version of the Turkish word "tulipam" which in turn derives from the Ottoman term "tülbent" meaning turban.*

And finally there are flowers grown throughout the year. Some better known than others, such as roses and daisies, which can be found in many colors. We really like Calas for weddings, but it's hard to find at an affordable price, so often are replaced by Liliums, which are also very stylish and look best price. And an infallible flower for weddings is Paniculata. We proclaim Paniculata fans!

Fiesta Flower Power

At last! We really wanted this weekend to arrive! Núria turned 25 and as a petition from her siblings Maria & Josep and her boyfriend Roger, we organized her a surprise party with her favourite theme: Flower Power.

The flowers were the basis of the decor, and as lovers of the '60s, the music was the main protagonist.

A huge 25 made with flowers to decorate the garden.

The menu echoed the soundtrack of the party: Let's twist again, All you need is love, Oh, Pretty Woman, etc. Substituting words of titles for ingredients or dishes, we presented the food to the guests.

A table with accessories for the guests, some sweets and a draw where they had to guess the song title referring to the menu.

The winner won a Flower Power style sweets bouquet from The Candy Company.

In a corner of the garden, the quietest could lay down in a hippie style. We used this space to put the favor for the guests: a CD with the '60s best hits.

... and the birthday girl that was definitely really surprised.

The guests did a really good job and came dressed up according to the theme. How pretty! We hope you enjoyed the party as much as we did organising it.

A couple of months ago we decided to enroll in one of the floral workshops offered by the australian Donna Stain, head of the floral decoration, for the last 8 years, at the Hotel Arts in Barcelona. We really wanted to attend one of these workshops because we love flowers and, in particular, the floral arrangements by Donna.
The workshop was held last Saturday morning on the 41st floor of the Hotel Arts. Donna and her assistant Carolina welcomed us with all the material carefully prepared and huge vases of flowers. The view from the room were breathtaking! Barcelona and the sea ... an ideal landscape for the proposal that Donna had prepared: magic sea. A flower arrangement consisting of flowers and seashells.
The amazing views from the room and Donna & Carolina welcoming us.

Peonias, Sweet avalance rose, celoisa, claveles, hortensias blancas, trachelium.
Peonies, Sweet Avalanche rose, celoisa, carnations, white hydrangeas, trachelium.
Material para componer el arreglo floral.
Supplies to make the floral arrangement.

Con las manos en la masa! Y el resultado!
Caught in the act! And the result!

Here are a few tricks that Donna taught us:
Unless necessary, avoid the green leaves immersed in the vases as they consume lots of water and flowers die earlier.
Moreover, the green leaves dirty the water and it is easier for bacteria to grow.
To attach the flowers, use the mosi (that green spongy mass that you have seen in many events). You can add water to the mosi when it dries.
If you want to dye the water into a certain color, you can use food coloring. It does not affect the flowers nor leaves stains on the vases.

Enroll the next workshop and you will learn more tricks for next fall!

Romantic candles and vintage notebook.
Has it ever ocurred to you to be walking around your city and think "I would like to be a tourist and discover this corner"? Today it happened to me when I saw how the Mayor de Sarriá street became a street market full of cute at items. I didn't hesitate for a second to get my camera and start taking pictures of those objects strategically placed so you can't resist buying them or at least admiring them and thinking how much you would like to have a big house to have an excuse to buy them all!

If it hadn't been for this neighborhood's iniciative to encourage the trade day, I wouldn't have discovered all those cute stores that I'm sure I will frequent from now on to decorate our events.

As it has coincided with Mother's day, I must confess that I couldn't help myself from buying several gifts for her.

As legend has it, once upon a time there was a little town where a king and a princess lived. In the caves surrounding the village hided a dragon that threatened to eat all the inhabitants. To keep the dragon away from the people, the king decided that every day they would make a draw among the villagers to decide who would be sacrificed and eaten by the evil monster.
One day luck chose the princess and while she approached the cave, Sant Jordi came along. The knight thrust his sword into the dragon's heart and killed him at the very moment he was about to eat the princess. From the blood of the dragon was born a red rose that Sant Jordi gave to the princess.

Catalonia celebrates every 23rd of April the day of Sant Jordi. Thousand of roses fill the streets and while the girls expect her rose, boys receive a book from their partner.

It seems like a very good excuse to organize a romantic dinner for two at home. Here are some ideas to decorate with either fresh or paper roses and books.

Combine with fresh roses with spike and the traditional catalan flag, as we photographed at the amazing florist Envit Singular. The rustic style will give your night a romantic and different feeling.
Would you rather buy roses that last forever? These ones combine patterned papers, plain and others that imitate the tulle fabricto create absolute vintage roses. We've found them at Tinta Gris, a store that we love for its good taste and originality in all their offers.

Another idea is to use books for decoration. Try it!
